BARTHOLOMEW PHRÉITH | ||||||||
| ||||||||
APPEARANCE HEIGHT: Thirty-two inches WEIGHT: One hundred and ninety pounds VOICE OVER: Aiden Gillen (Petyr Baelish from Game of Thrones) ONE LINE DESCRIPTION: A distinguished and refined cougar with bright pale blue eyes. Distinguished and refined are really the most popular two words to describe Bartholomew’s appearance. There is really nothing special about his appearance that separates him from others of his kind though. Bartholomew has the same typical coloring that all cougars have, even down to the black streaks that surround his eyes and fall down the sides of his nose to end gracefully on either side of his muzzle. His muzzle and chin are as white as snow. He is on the tall side for a cougar which makes him appear to be on the slender side. What really sets Bartholomew apart is how he moves; the large tom makes walking seem like gliding and simple movements seem like dancing. Bartholomew has bright blue eyes and a voice that is just as smooth as his movements. PERSONALITY One of the first things that many notice about Bartholomew’s personality is how he never misses anything. The tom is constantly listening, constantly watching, always alert; he just seems to be everywhere sometimes. Bartholomew often has a cool head and appears to always be calculating, playing his next move, his next game, his next fix. He does have a hard time staying in the present because of this and almost never looks to the past. The past is the past and what has been done cannot be undone. With that philosophy in mind, Bartholomew rarely holds grudges but when he does, it’s typically something that he struggles with on a regular basis. That does not mean that he does not get angry and if hurt, he does hold onto that pain until it is verbally dealt with. Bartholomew also comes from a long line of noble blood, those in his family have always served in important positions in Skotadi. This has led to him having an entitled atmosphere about him which has only helped to fuel his need for games. Everything is a carefully constructed game to him, parts of the game are incredibly important, such as balancing loyalty to the current King while also nursing wounds done to his family at the same time, while other parts are for sheer pleasure. Which brings the next major part of Bartholomew’s personality. He is extremely polyamorous, and it is a big part of his life. Some think of him as a player who just does not want to commit but that is not true at all for Bartholomew. In fact, he almost always commits to any relationship he starts as long as the other parties are all aware, communicating well, and are at least willing to try new things. The second any party is feeling uncomfortable to the point of wanting to break off the relationship, Bartholomew breaks it off immediately. LIKES:

The Phréith line has been strong in Skotadi for many generations and each generation has served in the high ranks for as long any of them care the remember. Few have been Kings or Queens, even more have been Dukes or Duchesses, while most have been known to be Guardians or Preymasters. Gabriel, Bartholomew’s father, was the eldest son of his generation and took his role seriously. Gabriel’s mateship to Abagail was one of purely political gain and he had no love for the cougaress but he remained faithful to her nonetheless. By the time the couple had their first litter of three cubs, Gabriel was promoted in the military ranks to being a leader. At that time, Gabriel was good friends with Mordecai (the Queen’s Guardian) and two spent some time together. Fatherhood proved to be a bit more challenging than Gabriel had initially thought when Abagail announced that she was pregnant a second time right around the time when two of the three cubs from their first litter died by freak accidents. By the time Nathaniel, Bartholomew, and Candace were born; Gabriel had already started teaching James how to start being the head of the family when he was gone and how important it was to be loyal to Skotadi, regardless of who was King or Queen. A year later, Mordecai and his mate were finally blessed with a single cub that the entire clan celebrated. Gabriel wasted no time in doing his best to set up playdates between Nathaniel, Bartholomew, and Zetyr; all in the hope that if something were to ever happen to James that his next two sons would stand a chance at continuing the prominent positioning that the Phréith line has always had. Gabriel also had plans to try to set up a mateship for Candace with the then Duchess’ eldest son in the hopes that she might someday be Queen to name James her Duke if he did not receive that honor naturally. By the time Abagail became pregnant with their third litter however, things changed when skirmishes started happening. Both Mordecai and Gabriel, along with a few others, lost their lives in defending and protecting their homeland and clan. The entire Skotadi mourned the losses of many lives. James was made the Queen’s Guardian in Mordecai’s stead since Zetyr was not yet old enough to have taken on the position. With James thus fulfilling father’s wishes of a Phréith being in the high ranks, that allowed Bartholomew, Nathanial, and Candance to do as they pleased. Juliet was the freest of them all though, knowing full well that as the youngest, the likelihood of any bloodline responsibilities being passed to her was zilch. With the newfound freedom, Bartholomew enjoyed his life and was finally able to become his own cat. It was during this time that he met Naomi, the first love of his life. He was the first out of his siblings to start a mateship and as a result, Adelaide is the head of the next generation. As much as he enjoyed his life with Naomi, he always felt like something was missing and after much discussion with Naomi, the two decided to try a one night experiment to spice things up. This is how Dinah came into being part of Bartholomew’s life. With more discussion, nights with Dinah became occasional but Naomi found that she just simply could not commit to Dinah fully like Bartholomew could. There started to be arguments between Bartholomew and Naomi which ultimately ended with her leaving and Bartholomew heartbroken. In his grief, Julianna picked up the pieces and it was not long before they were expecting. That only hurt Naomi more. By the time Lilliana and Johanna were born, Naomi had gotten sick with something that the Shamans had no idea how to cure. Bartholomew refused to leave her side until she took her last breath. It was not even a month later when James also died saving the aging Queen from slipping and falling to her death. James had been so consumed in his duties that he had failed to sire any children of his own or even have a mate. This caused a rift between Bartholomew and Nathanial quickly because everyone in Skotadi knew that Nathanial did not have what it took to be the head of the Phréith bloodline. But Nathanial tried anyway which resulted in a nasty fight between the two brothers where Bartholomew won. With all of the rapid changes happening in his life, Julianna once again picked up the pieces and also recruited Dina (with some convincing) and another to help. The third stayed for a while before deciding that the polyamorous lifestyle was not for him. As time passed, Zakaria was born and it had become time for the King to choose the next Duke. Bartholomew knew that he was a contender as well as his childhood friend, Zetyr. Because of his bloodlines and his skill in strategy and planning, Bartholomew really thought that he was going to end up being chosen as the next Duke. So, when Zetyr was chosen over him, that was really when the first seeds of hurt and betrayal were planted in his heart. Now Bartholomew had already had anger and annoyance in there because of James leaving him and Nathanial leaving him to feel like he had to be the head of the family, but those feelings only grew towards the King. Unfortunately, Bartholomew never took the time to discuss those feelings with Zetyr out of being afraid of looking weak or silly/stupid, so Bartholomew simply let it go without dealing with those feelings. Which is where Odysseus comes into play because by that time, Bartholomew knew that a solid male partner was something that he was missing in his life ever since the last one decided that this style of life was not for him. Odysseus was what they all needed and they all welcomed him with open paws. The three mates loved him so much that when Odysseus shared that he was afraid that he would never get to have his deepest desire, Bartholomew agreed to go to the Mother Tree with him. The Gods blessed the couple with his youngest daughter. Everything should have fell right into place and Bartholomew was truly and really happy. But the pressures of being the head of his family continue to weigh him down every so often to where once the King died and Zetyr claimed the throne; duty demanded that Bartholomew try his paw for any high ranking position that opened up that the new King saw fit for him, if any at all.
